About Me

Born in 1968, I grew up in New England and moved to the
Pacific Northwest in 1985. One of my hobbies for many
years was buying old vinyl records, which introduced me to
lute music in high school.

Another longstanding interest of mine has been working
with wood. My father carved as a hobby and both his father
and grandfather enjoyed woodworking. Over the years I
have taken courses at the NW Woodworking Studio,
volunteered as a carousel horse carver in Salem, Oregon,
and belonged to the Guild of Oregon Woodworkers before
moving to Seattle.

Having also enjoyed playing guitar for many years, I
decided to purchase a lute and take lessons. I soon
became interested in how lutes were built and desired to
make my own instrument.

After researching the subject and attending some
workshops in Vancouver and Cleveland in association
with the Lute Society of America, I followed an extensive
self-study course offered by David Van Edwards. Along the
way I also received some very helpful advice from Grant
Tomlinson of Vancouver, British Columbia.

I continue to participate in week-long music workshops
every year offered by Lute Society of America. These
gatherings are lots of fun and provide a great opportunity to
learn more about both making and playing lutes.

I am a current member of the Lute Society of America, The
Lute Society (Great Britain), Guild of American Luthiers,
Early Music America, and Seattle Luthiers Group.

Please revisit my site from time to time as I add new
photos and different models to the Instruments page.
