Giovani Hieber lived in Venice and I have
based my version of his lute on an
instrument that he built around 1580. The
original instrument can now be seen in
Brussels (no. 1561). One curious feature
of Hieber's lute is that the pegbox was
made from a single piece of wood.
The body of this lute has attractive
proportions and the instrument is
comfortable to hold.
